Educational Attainment, Early Years & KS1 2010/11

Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFS profile)

The EYFS profile has to be completed by registered early years child care providers for each child at the end of the academic year in which he/she reaches age 5. It is intended to provide reliable information on a child's early development as they move into Year 1.

The proportion of children achieving a good level of development in Sandwell increased from 49% in 2010 to 55% in 2011; nationally it increased from 56% to 59%.

Key Stage 1 (KS1)

KS1 refers to the two years of schooling usually know as Year 1 and Year 2 for children aged 5-7. By the age of 7 most children are expected to achieve Level 2.

The table below shows the proportion of pupils achieving Level 2 or above in KS1 Teacher Assessments in 2010/2011 (supported by task/test results).

The gap between Sandwell and the national average is 4 percentage points in reading, 6 percentage points in writing and 3 percentage points in maths.

In all subjects at Key Stage 1, a higher proportion of girls than boys achieved L2+, both in Sandwell and nationally. The largest achievement gap in those subjects shown in 2010/11 is in writing, with a 15 percentage point difference between boys and girls in Sandwell and an 11 percentage point difference nationally.

Mapped results by ward for 2010/11 will be available shortly

The Key Stage 1 results will be mapped by ward shortly, in the meantime, the mapped results for 2009/10 are available on the Educational Attainment Early Years and KS1 2009/10 page.
